special needs planning
Are you planning for a beneficiary who is disabled? Does the beneficiary need ongoing care after your death? Is it important for the beneficiary to maintain government benefits, such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income?
Special needs trusts (also known as supplemental needs trusts)
A Special Needs Trust is a type of trust that allows you to provide financially for a disabled beneficiary, without jeopardizing the beneficiary’s eligibility for means-tested government benefits.
able accounts
In December 2014, the Stephen Beck, Jr., Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act was signed into law. The ABLE Act created tax-advantaged savings accounts (much like college or health savings accounts) for people with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities can now save more than $2,000 without losing eligibility for Supplemental Security Income or Medicaid. Oregon launched it’s ABLE account program in December 2016.
